Diet UK – Advice, Tips And Ideas

diet uk

Welcome to my site, where you will find a host of useful information about all sorts of things related to diets and weight loss. The main purpose of this website is to help you to cut through the mountains of weird and wonderful information out there to find the right diet for you. As part of that process I hope to encourage you to take a sensible and balanced approach to weight loss and diet, and to follow a plan that will enable you to reach your perfect weight and shape while remaining healthy fit and happy.

You can use this site to find out more information about a huge range of diet plans that are available, but I would hope to steer you away from the most extreme and faddy diets, as these are the least likely to help you to succeed in the long term and the most likely to lead to complications.

Diet UK – How To Lose Weight

Losing weight is not rocket science, but there are still a million variations on how to approach it. If you take in more calories than your body requires each day, you will gain weight. In the world in which we live today that is extremely easy to do and is why most of us end up being overweight if we do not consciously work at avoiding it.

The abundance of sugar and fat in so many easily available foods and snacks (and the fact that most of them taste so good!) is what makes it so very easy to gain weight. Conversely, the way to lose weight is to take in less calories than our body needs, so that it has to burn some of our stored fat to use as energy. That’s It! That is the key to losing weight, but you probably already knew that. It takes more than just knowing it to make it happen.

Diet UK – Which Diet To Use

If there is one message I would like to get out loud and clear it is that any diet should be moderate, sensible and balanced. Apart from the fact that there are health risks if you try to put yourself through some extreme or bizarre form of diet, the most important reason for being sensible is that it is much more likely to work!

This is because whatever diet or weight loss programme you use needs to be sustainable. Your diet is quite simply just what you eat. You should think more in terms of your ongoing diet than about ‘being on a diet’. If you are on a diet, there is an inherent suggestion that it will come to an end. What happens then? You go back to eating what you did before and you put weight back on. To achieve the weight and look you want, and keep it, you need to make sensible changes to what you eat and how much exercise you take.

This is the crunch moment, because a short term diet may be tough, but it has the great attraction of coming to an end and is therefore more appealing to many people. What you need is to use a diet to bring about permanent changes to what you eat. Do not be tempted to starve yourself or cut down your calorie intake too drastically. If you do this you will start to lose muscle tissue instead of just fat. Be modest in your aims – if you can lose between one and two pounds a week on an ongoing basis you are doing very well and this is a sustainable rate of weight loss.

Diet UK – Do I Need To Exercise?

I have already mentioned that you need to burn off more calories than you consume in order to lose weight. You can do this in one of three ways. You can either just take in fewer calories, you can eat the same but increase the calories your body needs by exercising more, or you can use a combination of both. Can you guess which one I am going to suggest? That’s it – a combination of both.

By lowering your calorie intake and taking a bit more exercise, you are far more likely to arrive at a system that is more acceptable and workable for you. If your plan involves eating the same food but working out for 3 hours a day in a gym, you are making it quite likely that you will give up. Similarly, if you rely totally on cutting right back on what you eat, you are again increasing your chances of failing. Coming up with changes to your lifestyle that are not too extreme is the key to success. Combine changes to your diet with a modest exercise regime and you are far more likely to stick with it.

Diet UK – Choosing The Right Diet

There are a mind boggling choice of diets if you care to look for them, so it is difficult to know where to start. Many diets will work perfectly well, but you are going to be more suited to some than others. If you bear in mind the main principles covered above, and judge each diet against those basic requirements, you should be able to find something that suits your own personal preferences and lifestyle.
